Tucanos Brazilian Grill plans to open its first Midwest location in the $385 million Streets of St. Charles development in February.
The restaurant, located at 1520 S. 5th St., will lease about 7,486 square feet of space from Peoria, Ill.-based Cullinan Properties, which manages the property. This will be Tucanos\’ seventh location nationwide.
Steve Oldham, CEO of Tucanos, said the restaurant costs about $3 million to build. That price includes $1.8 million in construction costs and costs related to hiring, training, furnishings, marketing and signage. Oldham said the restaurant received financing from its investors, cash flow and Cullinan Properties.
The restaurant will seat between 200 and 220 people, depending on the day, Oldham said. It will also have an outdoor patio that will seat 40 people. The restaurant will serve appetizers, breads, fried bananas, salads, a large selection of meats.
Privately-held Tucanos officials plan to hire about 150 workers at job fair at the restaurant from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 17 . Oldham said the restaurant has already hired Tony Poole as its general manager.
Lakewood, Colo.-based Tucanos will join several other retail stores in the center, including MassageLuXe, a full service dental facility, Five Guys Burgers & Fries and Prasino, a Greek ‘farmto-table’ restaurant. Oldham said an average Tucanos restaurant does $4.5 million to $5 million in sales per year.
